![]() Summer Season 2007 Candie 3pm August 19th the GCB Soloists of the day were Matt Bowditch on Trombone with a comedy version of “The Acrobat” and Becky Halverson-Carr and Trevor Davies on Euphonium and Cornet respectively playing a variation of Lloyd Webber’s ‘All I Ask Of You’. Check out the new Band Social page. Sunday July 22nd the GCB played in Candie Gardens for the continuing Summer of Music. Notable events were a repeat of Matt Bowditch's 'Acrobat', an awesome rendition of Uppermill's favourite 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and a rather unusual performance of 'A Big Band Explosion' featuring Trevor Davies on a collapsing chair! Whether the structural failure of the chair was due to a stress fracture of the chairs frame or simply a Big Band Explosion in Trevor's trousers is not known at this time, however like the seasoned Pro he is Trevor continued playing even after kicking his stand over as he capsized, although muffled curses could Saturday July 21st at St James the GCB played its Summer Concert in very warm and humid conditions. The program was Death or Glory (from Brassed Off), Breezin' Broadway, Hymn to the Fallen (from the film Saving Private Ryan, and dedicated tonight to Simon's Mum who fell on her face last week), The Acrobat (featuring Matt Bowditch on Solo Trombone), Mary Poppins, All I Ask of you (from the Phantom of the Opera, by special request of Mary and Brian Chick from Somerset Featuring Colin Solway on solo cornet and Becky Halverson-Carr on solo Euphonium), and Great Western Themes. Then after the Interval, West Side Story, Tara's Theme (from Gone With The Wind), Scarecrow and Mrs King (from the 80s TV series), Cabaret, The Trap (from the 1966 Oliver Reed film), Jurassic Park (Doyouthinkhesaurus), and for Encore - The Great Escape Saturday June 23rd saw the sun shine on the GCB at the St Peters Fete open air concert. Suprisingly the ground was dry enough that our chairs didn't sink and the wind was just low enough that we didn't lose any music (for long). A grand day out!
