PRESENTS:-
The Victors’ Return
Musical Director:-
Simon J Applegate LDBBA
St James 2003 – 8.00pm
12th July 2003
It has been six years since the last visit of the Guernsey Concert Brass to the Whitsuntide celebrations in Saddleworth, though of course, we were then called “Band” rather than “Brass”.
It has always been an ambition of the band to return, as we were afforded the best of welcomes and hospitality then, and the last visit proved to be no different.
On our last visit, we were proud to collect our first ever prize on UK soil from the Broadoak contest, this time, we returned to Guernsey with a little more silverware, three first prizes, from the seven contests we took part in.
Being a part of the brass band culture, as witnessed by the entire band on the last visit is all-important, there is no friendlier place than the Dobcross band club.
We once again did our Island proud, though frustrating to us, is the apathy which seems to come from all but our loyal supporters over our achievements in what is, the largest brass band contest in the world
I, as Musical Director of Guernsey Concert Brass would like to take the opportunity of thanking the committee and all of the players in their superb efforts, and also for the time they gave up to represent Guernsey….I shall never forget the experience and feeling of pride leading such a talented and hard working bunch of musicians.
Finally, thanks must once again go to our sponsors for this evening:- Close International Private Banking. Their promotion of these events at St James, free up valuable funds for us to be able to afford the £12,500 it cost us to be able to represent Guernsey at such a prestigious event as Saddleworth. It is a shame the States do not have the same sort of support for us.
